PLAIN is presenting its awards this year in Brussels and we are welcoming nominations for innovators and noteworthy achievers. In 2023 Ginny Reddish received the Christine Mowat Plain Language Achievement award. As “practically the mother of UX” andmultidecade impact on plain language practice and scholarship, it was a surprise to all that she hadn’t received it already. She authored the field’s mostused definition of plain language—now embedded in ISO 244951— “that people should be able to find what they need; understand what they find; and, then, use it appropriately to meet their needs.” She bridged plain language and UX, mainstreaming user testing and contentdesign methods in government and beyond (Document Design Center; federal projects that cascaded to States and education).
