The February issue of the PLAIN eJournal will be dedicated to the first principle of plain language: Readers get what they need.
Readers asked for case studies, how-to articles, techniques, tools like checklists and examples of style guides, tips and tricks, research, white papers, trends, and other resources.
Articles should offer examples of how the first principle (relevant) can be applied on different budgets and in different sectors, countries, and cultures.
As well as success stories, readers also want to learn about what did not work, why it did not work, and what lessons were learned. Readers can benefit from your experience in the form of a brief.
- Articles should be 800 to 1,000 words.
- Briefs should be 200 to 300 words, using the headings objective, method, result, and conclusion (lessons learned).
- Article proposals are due November 4. Articles for accepted proposals will be due December 4.
Email the PLAIN eJournal Managing Editor, Virginia St-Denis, with your questions and proposals.
PLAIN eJournal to publish 4 issues in 2027!
The first principle of plain language is ensuring information is relevant to the intended readers. There is no better way of doing that than asking readers what they want.
So, the PLAIN eJournal Managing Editor, Virginia St-Denis, asked the LinkedIn group and GlueUp community to suggest themes that they wanted to learn more about in upcoming issues of the journal.
The PLAIN Board has read your responses and approved an ambitious plan for providing you (our members and our readers) with what you asked for.
In 2027, we will publish 4 issues of the PLAIN eJournal, providing resources and guidance on applying the ISO plain language standard and its 4 principles. Each issue will focus on 1 of the 4 principles: relevant, findable, understandable, and usable.

The PLAIN eJournal reaches plain language practitioners, researchers, educators, and advocates in 52 countries. Published twice a year in a magazine-style format, the journal shares best practices, case studies, reflections, and discussions from across the plain language field.
The magazine supports PLAIN’s organizational objectives of:
- promoting research and development in plain language,
- promoting the interests of plain language specialists, and
developing standards and - practices for the plain language field.
