PLAIN has been connecting plain language people for 30 years now. To celebrate, we’re putting together a collection of 30 of the people who have kept the campaign thriving.
Our first guest is Lynda Harris from Write Limited in New Zealand.

Lynda Harris – Write Limited
New Zealand
I’ve been a PLAIN member for many years, with organizational membership since 2015. I am the founder of Write Limited and have been Chief Executive for 33 years — before PLAIN even! I’m also founder and Chief Executive of WriteMark. The WriteMark Plain Language Standard is a mark of document quality. It’s displayed by many organisations who value plain language, both in New Zealand and several other countries.
What is the best thing PLAIN brought to your career?
Being part of PLAIN, especially attending the PLAIN conferences, has inspired and informed our plain language practice over many years. When Write began, I had no idea of what other plain language work was happening around the world. PLAIN has connected me with many like-minded people who are making a difference in their country. And we’ve been able to share some of our projects and ideas too.
What makes you proud in your own work on plain language?
I am honoured to work in a field that has such potential for positive impact in society. Our strapline ‘Using the power of words for good’ reflects that ideal. I feel very proud of all the Write projects that have improved access to vital information in health, finance, education, law, and government. I’m also proud of founding New Zealand’s annual Plain Language Awards, now in their 17th year!
