What first inspired you to get involved with plain language?

I have a daughter with a cognitive disability. I need to speak to her in simple and clear language so that she can understand the world around her. This is how I first became involved in plain language and cognitive accessibility.

How did you become a plain language ambassador?

I read about the impressive work of PLAIN and decided that I wanted to become its ambassador in Israel and help spread the message of plain language here.

Why is plain language important to you personally or professionally?

Plain language is important in so many ways. It helps many people understand the world more easily, and it allows people like my daughter Roni to be more independent in the world.

Can you describe a project where plain language made a real difference?

I serve as a reservist in the Israeli Home Front Command, where I write emergency instructions in plain language. This helps many people understand the instructions and know how to act during an emergency.

Tamar Tal-Amatzia is a plain language specialist, linguistic simplifier, and inclusion lecturer based in Israel. She works with public organizations, health care providers, emergency communication teams, museums, airlines, and security organizations to make information clearer, simpler, and more accessible.
Her work brings together professional writing, cognitive accessibility, and lived experience as the mother of Roni, a young woman with cognitive disabilities. Tamar is also involved in plain language work for emergency communication in Israel and serves as PLAIN’s ambassador for Israel.
